In this module we look at the conceptual and practical foundations of inclusive teaching. Daniel Sobel sets out the importance of building a community of belonging that make all students feel included and welcome in their learning environment. Carol Ann Tomlinson reflects on how we build on children’s strengths as well as how challenges in a child’s life that may contribute to negative behaviours in school. Louise Dawson helps us to understand the child by gathering data and information about students to increase our knowledge and awareness of how to support and personalise their learning. Finally, Abigail Gray identifies three common problems that affect memory and processing. She goes on to demonstrate how teaching with awareness of these problems can support student achievement.
